Kagari

The chapter starts off with us seeing what Kagari (Hotaru's older sister) is up to. She's at her new place and is talking on the phone with her mother. Her mother asks if she's unpacking, and she says yes. Her new bed and shelf arrived, and it's quite comfortable.

Her mother tells Kagari that she can come back home immediately if anything happens. She adds that Hotaru and Tomo cried a lot after returning home on the day they sent Kagari off.

Kagari laughs awkwardly and thinks to herself that she can't say it, but...

There's a flashback of the day the Hinase family sent Kagari off at the airport. Hotaru and Tomo tearfully wave at Kagari and tell her to take care of herself. After Kagari enters the gantry, she turns back to look at her family leaving. Hotaru and Tomo are wiping their tears. Tears well up in Kagari's eyes too, and she realizes with a shock that her tears won't stop flowing.

As she wipes her tears, a man walks by her and notices her. It's Kuroe. He recognizes Kagari and goes, "Oh, are you Kaga...". Kagari is startled when she recognizes Kuroe, and he notices that she's crying.

However, before the two of them can say anything else, a woman calls out to Kuroe. "Yuki- The train is leaving, hurry up~" (His name is Kuroe Yukihiro). Kagari makes a gesture to Kuroe to get him to leave, and Kuroe obliges. Kagari watches as the woman takes his arm and nags him lightly.

End of flashback. In the present, Kagari ends her call with her mother.

While unpacking and putting her belongings in cabinets and shelves, Kagari thinks to herself that the woman must have been Kuroe's girlfriend. She also tells herself that since she's moved away, she won't be able to see him anymore.

While putting away a bowl, Kagari realizes that it belongs to Hotaru. She remembers that Hotaru is still on her school trip, and recalls how Hotaru looked fine when they sent her off. However, she also recalls how Hotaru was hunched over on her bed with a tear-stained face (in Chapter 60) and wonders if Hotaru is alright.

Hotaru's Condition

Hotaru is not alright - she was panicking in the plane during turbulence, and after arriving at their destination, has to rest on a chair with Shibamura comforting her.

Someone runs towards them, calling out to Hotaru. It's Hananoi. He asks if Hotaru is alright, to which Hotaru answers that Shibamura was holding her hand the whole time, so she's okay.

Hananoi seems like he's about to say more, but someone else calls out for Hananoi's group to gather, so he bids Hotaru and Shibamura goodbye and leaves.

Shibamura asks Hotaru if she and Hananoi have made up. Hotaru says that they haven't. However, Hotaru thinks to herself that she's determined to make up with Hananoi and have an enjoyable school trip, so she's pumped up.

Onsen

Later, we see a dejected-looking Hotaru at the bath with her female classmates. She thinks to herself that for the whole of the first day, she had to move around with her class, so there was no opportunity for her to meet Hananoi. She decides that she has to wait until tomorrow, because she can't visit the boys' room at night.

A couple of her classmates excitedly ask Hotaru if she will be going around with Hananoi tomorrow, to which she says she probably will. She also apologizes for being selfish. Her classmates cheerfully say that it's fine. (They don't know Hotaru and Hananoi's situation.)

Meeting Hananoi

Hotaru leaves the bath and spots Hananoi at the vending machines. They both go, "Ah..." when they come face to face with each other.

Hotaru breaks the awkward silence by asking if they will still proceed as planned tomorrow. Hananoi answers that yes, he's looking forward to going around with Asami (Hibiki) too. Hotaru brightens up and looks relieved at his words, but before she can say anything, a couple of guys walk by.

Hananoi suddenly takes his jacket off and covers Hotaru with it, then stands in front of her to block the guys' view of Hotaru, until the guys leave.

Hotaru is confused, but doesn't do anything. Hananoi then apologizes and says that he didn't want other people seeing how she looked coming out of the bath. Hotaru goes, "Huh...", then Hananoi proceeds to zip up the jacket for Hotaru, adding that the weather's cold, too.

Hananoi gently holds Hotaru's hair and says that her hair is not completely dry yet, and tells her not to catch a cold. He then goes, "Well then, see you tomorrow." and leaves.

Hotaru returns to her room (she's sharing with Shibamura), wearing Hananoi's jacket. Shibamura welcomes her back and remarks that the oversized jacket is cute on her. Hotaru thinks to herself that Hananoi was surprisingly normal earlier, somehow.

Next Day

Hotaru and her friends have free and easy time at Hakodate! Hibiki and Keigo are super excited. Hananoi goes around with Hotaru, Hibiki and Shibamura.

Hotaru happily munches into a burger (Chinese Chicken Burger?) and exclaims that it's delicious. Hotaru's classmates, who see that Hotaru and Hananoi are seated next to each other, admiringly remark that they are a sweet couple.

They all review their next visiting spots. Someone mentions that they are visiting an English consulate later. This brings them to ask Hananoi if it's true that he has relatives who are foreigners. Hananoi clarifies that it's true - his grandmother is. Their classmates marvel at the fact.

Hibiki then gets all of them to squeeze together to take a group selfie. After taking the picture, Hibiki asks Shibamura if she'd like to take a picture with their teacher. Shibamura says that it's not needed. Hibiki then asks if she should accompany Shibamura to ask, but Shibamura pinches Hibiki's nose, leading Hibiki to apologize to her. Shibamura says, "It's fine. I'm allowed to see him off.", to which Hibiki and Hotaru are confused about, but don't ask further.

Evening Time

The group goes visiting and exploring until evening. They take a cable car to reach the top of a building (Hotaru is scared in the cable car).

Upon reaching the top, Hotaru's classmates excitedly run towards the souvenir shop. Their teacher is also there. Only Hotaru and Hananoi remain behind, standing, and they smile at each other.

The two of them step outside to look at the view. Hotaru says that it's cold. Nonetheless, she marvels at the view. Hotaru says that she had a lot of fun today, and Hananoi says him, too. He asks if they covered all of the places she wanted to go, and Hotaru laments that she wanted to visit the morning market to try a kaisen don, but didn't get the chance to. Hananoi chuckles.

Hotaru says that regardless, she was able to make lots of memories of them as high school students.

Shibamura and Sensei

Shibamura notices their teacher, Hozumi-sensei, holding a camera. She approaches him and calls out to him. Shibamura asks if he's in charge of photography, to which Hozumi-sensei answers that it's because their school couldn't afford to hire a cameraman.

Shibamura chuckles and says that it's hard on him, but Hozumi-sensei answers that he's glad she's enjoying the trip.

Shibamura then asks to borrow the camera that Hozumi-sensei is holding. She says that he must not have taken any pictures of himself - she'll take some for him. Hozumi-sensei looks unwilling, but Shibamura reassures him that she won't be in the picture. She says, "I just want to leave 'Hozumi-sensei' behind, and be able to meet not Sensei, but Shou-kun again."

Hozumi-sensei stares at Shibamura. She then calls out to her classmates (Akari, Yuno) and gets them over. Shibamura asks them to take a picture with Hozumi-sensei. They ask her to be in the picture too, but Shibamura responds by saying that if they did that, there'd be no one to take the picture.

Hotaru and Hananoi

Back to our couple, who are still looking at the night view - Hotaru happily says that they'll continue to make more memories, and asks Hananoi if they should come again once they're adults.

Hananoi looks troubled at Hotaru's words, which she notices and quickly tries to diffuse the tension by going, "...Ah, um... say...! Saki-kun, I want to properly make up with you...! There're still various things we haven't worked out yet, but even so, I hope we can overcome them together like we've always been doing...!"

Hananoi repeats the word, "Together...". He takes Hotaru's hand.

Hananoi: ...As always, thank you, Hotaru-chan. I really like you. ...The truth is, I was planning on telling you after we got back, but I'm sorry. Right now, I'm going to make a suggestion that will hurt you greatly, Hotaru-chan.
Hotaru: Eh...
Hananoi: How about we stop being lovers for a while?

Hananoi's Explanation

Hotaru is stunned.

Hananoi: I thought that this time, some things might not be resolved just by talking about it... I've grown... but there are things that don't change easily. Things like how I still worry even when you tell me not to worry about it; feeling stressed when I'm involved with people that I'm not familiar with; getting jealous of people who get close to you, Hotaru-chan; getting upset when I wasn't prioritized, even when it wasn't your fault; I'm the type of person whom everything is about 'me'. It isn't something Hotaru-chan should be burdened with.

Hotaru: I-it's not a burden...
Hananoi: ...If we continue like this, every time I'm unstable, I'll make you worry... and you'll have to accommodate me. Then, you'll get confined in an increasingly narrow world-
Hotaru: That's not what I think! That's not it at all...!
Hananoi: ...Nonetheless, you didn't ask for Yao's contact details.
Hotaru (confused): What...
Hananoi: I'm not blaming you. I love how you're able to care about people, no matter who it is. I don't want your way of life to be distorted by my hands. ...That's why, I thought that, I need time.
Hotaru: Time...?
Hananoi: ...I don't know how much time I will take. Still, someday, I'll become a person who can live without getting depressed, without relying on anyone, even if you're... not around. If I can be the person who can make you happy just the way you are--... Then...!

Hananoi covers his mouth, as if he was about to blurt out something outrageous.

Hotaru: Then...? Tell me everything properly...!
Hananoi: I'll ask you to go out with me again.

Hananoi: I'm sorry for saying something so selfish. Thank you for always caring so much about me. I also want to cherish you in a different way.

Thank you for the spoilers. It was a bittersweet chapter. I feel for Hotaru and her attempts to reconcile with Saki. However, she didn’t understand that her broken promise hurt him deeply. He loves her completely and needed her in a very difficult moment and she chose to not be by his side. He loves Hotaru but a part of himself can’t trust her, no matter how much he wants to forgive her, he just cannot. I think this is because he had grown so much as a character that he started to truly care about himself. He hit rock bottom and realizes the fact that maybe no one will come to help him when he is suffering, so he needs to learn to do it himself. He needs to focus on himself, to find what makes him happy, what are his dreams. Also to learn to recognizes his best qualities from the bad ones. In conclusion to love and accept himself. He needs time away from everything to do all of this and to forgive the broken promise and be ready to trust again.

I really fell sorry for Hotaru, but she is so young and she is doing her best. Dealing with Hananoi it’s difficult, he was wounded by her parents and fells so insecure. He is also trying to do his best. Looking to the future he won’t be able to keep a relationship (or marriage) if he can’t express what is happening.
