Next Morning

Hotaru is on the train, on the way to school and prepping herself to meet Hananoi. She keeps reminding herself to apologize to Hananoi about what she did yesterday.

Hananoi is waiting outside the station. When he spots Hotaru approaching him, he calmly greets her good morning. Hotaru looks relieved and says good morning back.

At School

Hotaru is a little cross with herself, as she didn't manage to apologize to Hananoi and simply felt relieved earlier. She tells herself that she has to first apologize to him, and since he has something to talk to her about, she wants to make sure he's feeling fine before she listens to what he has to say.

It's now lunchtime, so Hotaru goes to look for Hananoi. Hananoi sees her and turns to call for Hibiki, but Hotaru stops him. She asks Hananoi if they can lunch with just the two of them.

Eating Together

They have their lunch at a stairwell. Hotaru begins their conversation by apologizing to Hananoi. She suggests that they have a date next week to make up for it.

However, Hananoi asks, "Didn't you say that you're going out with your big sis next week?" and Hotaru flinches when she remembers.

Hananoi says that Hotaru's big sister is moving away soon, so she should cherish the time they have together. He also says for Hotaru not to worry about what happened yesterday. Nonetheless, Hotaru says that she can change the date she goes out with Kagari, so Hananoi doesn't object further.

He shyly adds that it's been a year. Hotaru doesn't understand and looks confused. Hananoi explains that next week, it'll be their dating anniversary. Hotaru is flabbergasted when she realizes that she didn't notice. She is just realizing the concept of dating anniversaries now. Hananoi chuckles lightly, saying that this is very Hotaru-like.

Their lunchtime ends and the two of them part ways to return to their classrooms. As Hananoi turns away, we see his expression change from a normal, smiling face, to a sullen, downcast look.

The Next Day

Hotaru is in her classroom when Hibiki and Shibamura approach her to ask if she will join them for lunch today. Hotaru apologizes to them and says that she won't be joining them for today, and for a while.

Hibiki and Shibamura look at each other. Shibamura then asks Hotaru if something happened. Hibiki mentions that Hananoi looked a little down yesterday and asks if everything is fine.

Hearing Hibiki's remark, Hotaru realizes to herself that Hananoi was indeed unhappy and has not gotten over it. She explains to Hibiki and Shibamura that she ruined their date plans recently and made Hananoi feel bad, but Hananoi did not express any feelings of anger towards her, so she's been wondering what to do.

What To Do?

Hibiki is the type to always show her feelings on her face, so she looks to Shibamura to dish out advice to Hotaru.

Shibamura says that Hotaru has already apologized and is reflecting upon it. Shibamura adds that if it were her, she usually goes and does something she enjoys, sleeps on it, and she will feel better on her own. Hotaru wonders aloud what Hananoi likes and enjoys.

Hibiki can only think of "Hotaru" as the thing that Hananoi likes. Shibamura chuckles and says that that isn't a bad course of action. Hotaru looks embarrassed and flustered.

Hibiki adds that she also had times when she couldn't talk about her unhappiness (just like what Hananoi is probably doing right now). She likes the other person very much and doesn't want to be hated, so the other person's mood becomes more important than her own, and she will end up just pretending that everything is fine.

[Edited] Listening to Hibiki, Hotaru wonders if Hananoi is the same, feeling unable to express his happiness. She wonders if her relationship with Hananoi will continue to be like this.

What's Up With Hananoi

In Hananoi's classroom, Keigo and a fellow classmate visit him, asking about notes from the earlier class. However, Hananoi is spacing out on his own and doesn't hear him. Keigo and the classmate approach Hananoi, but there's still no response from him.

Then, Keigo shouts into Hananoi's ear, which startles Hananoi and leads to Keigo getting a notebook smacked in his face. Keigo says that Hananoi has been a little strange recently and asks him if he needs a change of pace. However, Hananoi says to leave him alone.

Keigo notices Hananoi's expression and seriously asks Hananoi if he's really all right. The two boys look at each other, then Hananoi looks away. Keigo asks Hananoi to talk to him if it's really bad.

Hotaru's Effort

Over the next couple of days, Hotaru continues to lunch with Hananoi and go home together after school. She makes an effort to initiate holding hands with Hananoi. They also visit the library together to borrow and read books.

After school on another day, just as Hananoi is saying goodbye to Hotaru for the day, Hotaru calls out to him. Wondering what's up, Hananoi leans down towards Hotaru to listen to what she has to say.

Blushing, Hotaru takes the chance to give Hananoi a kiss on the cheek. She then embarrassedly tells him that she just felt like doing it. Leaving Hananoi speechless and blushing, she says her goodbye and runs off shyly.

On Another Day

Hotaru and Hananoi are now arriving at the bookstore for their part-time jobs. At the staff room, they see Satomi and Nishi seated and chatting. Hotaru greets them.

When Satomi sees Hotaru, she immediately gets up and brings Hotaru with her to another room. Hananoi notices, but doesn't do anything. Nishi starts chatting with him.

Meanwhile, Satomi hands Hotaru a handkerchief. Hotaru recognizes it as the one she lent to Yao at the hospital. Satomi explains that Yao came by earlier to return it (though in her mind, Satomi thinks to herself that Yao could have returned it to Hotaru himself.)

Satomi adds that Yao wanted to relay to Hotaru that his mother regained consciousness after the surgery and is recovering smoothly. There also doesn't seem to be any side effects.

When Hotaru hears that, she heaves a sigh of relief. She asks Satomi how Yao looked, whether or not he was fine. Satomi answers that Yao looked a little tired, but happy.

Then, Hotaru returns to the staff room (where Hananoi and Nishi are), smiling to herself. Hananoi asks her if something good happened.

Hotaru is about to answer, but she suddenly realizes that talking about Yao to Hananoi may make him unhappy, so she just tells Hananoi that something she was worried about became all right. Hananoi pauses for a moment, then smiles and says, "I see."

Hotaru adds that she's looking forward to their date tomorrow as well.

Date Time

Hotaru dresses up cutely for her date with Hananoi (the collar of her blouse can be tied into a large ribbon). Meeting Hananoi at the train station, they then go around shopping for things for their school trip.

Then, they go to a cafe and are served a dessert that is prettily decorated with "Happy 1st Anniversary" on the plate, which makes Hotaru delighted.

Hotaru asks Hananoi how other people celebrate their dating anniversaries. Hananoi says that this is his first time as well, so he looks it up on his phone. The website that he is looking at provides a list of popular presents to get: getting couple rings, going on a trip etc. He shows Hotaru his phone screen and lets her take it.

Looking further down the list, Hotaru reads out "dining in a fancy restaurant" and "going to a theme park", but she says that these are expensive, so they're no good, but it makes her want to quickly grow up.

She also sees "going on a trip together" and says that while they won't be alone, their school trip is also something like "going on a trip together". She smiles happily while saying that during their free and easy time during the school trip, she wants to go together with Hananoi.

Hotaru then scrolls some more and sees a Q&A section. The question she reads says: What kind of date did you have for your dating anniversary? One of the answers says: We had a normal date, but we took one step forward in our relationship that day.

This makes Hotaru think back to how Hananoi touched her last week. She blushes to herself. Hananoi calls out to her, breaking her thoughts, so she quickly returns him his phone.

At Hananoi's House

Hananoi and Hotaru are now in Hananoi's room and are picking out a film to watch together. They see a romance film and comment on how the screenwriter of this film is the same as one other movie that they previously watched together.

While Hotaru adjusts the cushions to get comfortable on Hananoi's bed, she sees Hananoi's hand next to her. She touches his hand with her pinky finger lightly, and Hananoi responds by holding her hand (without making any eye contact), which makes her blush. She then gently leans her head on his shoulder as they begin watching the film.

During the Movie

Both of them are immersed in the movie and react to various scenes accordingly. At the same time, Hotaru sneaks glances at Hananoi and thinks to herself that Hananoi is behaving normally. She wonders if he's enjoying himself.

She also thinks to herself while looking at their joined hands, that recently, she's been the one initiating them.

However, her thoughts are interrupted by the movie, where the main characters are about to get intimate (the movie's female lead has her blouse undone and seems to be seducing the male lead). Hotaru gets embarrassed and covers her eyes.

However, it seems like the movie's male lead doesn't want to take things further. He says that skinship is not normal to him and so this is a big step forward for him. Hotaru is surprised. Then, the movie ends.

Thoughts on the Film

Hananoi asks Hotaru if she enjoyed the movie. Hotaru answers, saying that she feels like she understands. Her answer confuses Hananoi, so he asks her which part.

Hotaru answers that she's referring to the part on skinship. She shyly explains (without looking at Hananoi) that she has also been thinking, that if they take one step at a time, she feels that she can also reach the end.

Hananoi doesn't know how to react to Hotaru's words and asks her what's wrong. Hotaru shyly mentions that she had previously stopped Hananoi from going further. Hananoi now understands what she's referring to.

Hananoi frantically tries to explain that it's because Hotaru didn't want it, but Hotaru tells him that she said before that she doesn't dislike it.

I Want To Do It

Hotaru elaborates that she believes in what Hananoi said before, that now is not the time, so she wasn't worried about it. She explains again that last week, various things had happened, so she just wasn't in the right mind for it. However, if it's just touching each other, she's been thinking that she wants that. Furthermore, them touching each other gives her a sense of ease.

Hotaru is blushing as red as a tomato as she shyly lifts her gaze to look at Hananoi. She tells him, "If it's with Saki-kun... I want to try it."

Hananoi stares at her, wordless. Then, he kisses her, and they fall down towards the bed.

Hananoi now has Hotaru pinned beneath him. He slowly undoes the ribbon of Hotaru's blouse, then unbuttons it, revealing Hotaru's camisole beneath. She is looking very shy.

Hananoi blushes at the sight. Hotaru squints her eyes shut from embarrassment. He then touches her collarbone.
