Study Session

With her spanking new backpack, Yui is now geared up for... a study session with the volleyball team members, so that they can all safely pass their exams and take part in the competitions. They're gathered in a pavilion in a park.

Hayato, Mitsuka and Mano are in the group who are there to teach, while Yui, Ritsu and two others are there to be taught.

Ritsu's phone was going off non-stop when he and Yui were on their date (in the previous chapter) because the team members were discussing the mid-terms on the group chat.

Starting to Study

Mitsuka asks if Yui struggles with her studies and Yui sheepishly shares that she's no good at math. Ritsu chimes in to say that he's pretty good at math, and starts to ask Yui which parts she's weak at.

Yui answers that she's weak at trigonometry. Ritsu then goes to sit next to Yui and leans in close to her while starting to explain tips to study.

However, while Ritsu's talking, Hayato comes in between them, pushing Ritsu aside and saying that he doesn't have the capacity right now to be concerned about others.

Hayato suggests for Mitsuka to teach English, as she's good at that. Meanwhile, Ritsu is indignantly rubbing his neck from when Hayato firmly pushed his head away earlier. Ritsu counters that if he teaches others, it'd be like revision for him too, whereas Hayato is a grade above them, so this is just a waste of his time.

Everyone's Capabilities

Yui agrees with the sentiment, but Hayato says that he will be fine, because according to him, simply paying attention in class is enough to do well. Him saying this stuns everyone around. The volleyball members flinch and remark that Hayato is too cool.

Mano goes up to Hayato and laughs, telling Hayato that he's shocked everyone. Not everyone can do what he does. However, Hayato replies, saying that Mano doesn't really have the right to comment on him.

Apparently, Mano is actually someone with stellar grades. Even one of the volleyball team members can't believe it. Mitsuka explains that it's because Mano is the type who can somehow spot the test questions well.

Upon hearing that, the other volleyball team members flock to Mano, asking him to help them spot the test questions for them. Mano humbly scratches his head and says that he can't guarantee that all of his predictions will be spot on.

Meanwhile, Mitsuka asks if Ritsu is weak in English and offers her notebook to him.

Study Time

The volleyball members remark that their schedule is way too tough - why should they have to take mid-terms before competitions? They also ask about the other team members who aren't at the study session today - are they that confident in their studies? One of them answers that those members simply prefer to study alone.

A short while later, Hayato approaches Yui and offers to teach her trigonometry. He sits next to her, and Yui becomes conscious of their proximity. Ritsu watches them silently.

The study session goes on without further interruptions.

Break Time

A while later, one of the volleyball members (his name is Mukai) drops his head on the table, complaining that he can't go on anymore. Mano tells him that it hasn't even been an hour. Mukai groans that he wants to eat meat, but Mitsuka says that he probably needs sugar instead (because the brain runs on glucose).

Ritsu suggests that there's a food truck near to a nearby drugstore that sells fried chicken. Mukai immediately brightens up and says that he wants to eat that. He suggests going to buy the fried chicken and also drinks and snacks from the drugstore.

Mano says that everyone's focus has been interrupted, but he is indeed a bit thirsty, so he decides that they should take a break and buy the food and drinks. He asks for the girls, Yui and Mitsuka, to remain behind to watch over their belongings, while the guys go. He also asks for the girls to text him if they want anything.

Girl Talk

Left alone, the girls chat a little. Mitsuka asks Yui how her studies are going and Yui answers that it's been going very smoothly.

Yui thinks to herself that despite the proximity to Hayato, she was still able to focus on her studies, so it's probably considered an improvement. Meanwhile, Mitsuka remarks that Hayato is unexpectedly good at explaining things. Yui replies that it's perhaps because he has a sharp mind.

Yui thinks further to herself that when she's reminded of the fact that there's someone who likes her (Ritsu), she feels compelled to correct her feelings in order to respond to Ritsu's feelings. She's happy with her progress.

Mitsuka asks Yui if Yui is able to see and treat Hayato as an older brother even after their 8 years of separation.

Yui's eyes open wide at Mitsuka's question and her heart starts pounding very quickly. Mitsuka doesn't seem to notice and continues asking if having a brother like Hayato (someone so perfect) by her side will make all other guys around her look like squids.

Yui answers that that isn't the case, while feeling relieved in her thoughts - she thought that Mitsuka was asking such a question because of her behavior or expression earlier.

Mitsuka and Mano

Yui counters Mitsuka's questions by stating that even though Mitsuka is close to her older brother, she still likes Mano. Mitsuka is stumped by Yui's statement and shyly admits that Yui is right. Yui smiles to herself when she sees Mitsuka being shy.

Yui then brings up that Mituska once mentioned that she had trouble finding a good opportunity to stop treating a childhood friend as just a friend, but someone of the opposite gender (referring to Mitsuka's relationship with Mano). Yui asks if there was a certain trigger that caused her to become aware of her feelings for Mano.

Pondering it for a moment, Mitsuka shares that a senior who liked Mano once asked her and Mano if they were truly childhood friends. It was Mitsuka's unexpected involvement in that question that caused her to realize that there are girls out there who like Mano, even though Mano himself was oblivious about it (which irritated Mitsuka).

Mitsuka shares further that later on, she quickly found herself a boyfriend. When Mano learnt of it, he happily supported her, which irritated her. Mitsuka realized to herself that she seemed to be the only one noticing these things, which led her to realize her feelings.

Mitsuka explains that even though Mano is oblivious and at times gets on Mitsuka's nerve, he is also quick to notice when she's feeling upset. He doesn't talk badly about others and is able to see the good things in other people. Through noticing the many good points about Mano, Mitsuka gradually came to like him.

Yui's Thoughts

Upon hearing Mitsuka's explanations, Yui thinks to herself that she understands Mitsuka's feelings. She admits to Mitsuka that she is also the oblivious type of person, which surprises Mitsuka.

Yui reflects on herself and realizes that she was oblivious to Ritsu's feelings.

Yui thinks about her various interactions with Hayato and Ritsu. She feels that she admires both Hayato's unconditional acceptance of her and Ritsu's keen sense of knowing how she's feeling and extending a helping hand towards her when she's feeling troubled. These traits of the two boys are traits that she doesn't possess, and are things she likes about them.

She is unsure if her feelings of "like" are as friends or as the opposite gender and wonders if she's being indecisive. She also wonders if her relationship with Ritsu will change if her feelings for him grow, and how other people in this world begin a new relationship. Where do people draw the line to determine if it's love or not? How many people are even able to make such a distinction?

Mitsuka asks Yui how many bracelets she has left to make for the team. Yui answers that she has two left, but Mitsuka still has four. Yui offers to make one more to help her.

What are the guys up to?

The guys arrive at the food truck and notice that there's a long queue for the fried chicken. Ritsu suggests for him and Hayato to queue up while the others visit the drugstore for drinks and snacks.

While waiting in line, Ritsu asks if Hayato is still against the idea of him and Yui dating after all. Hayato answers that he isn't against them and asks what Ritsu means by "after all".

Ritsu explains that earlier, Hayato had tried to separate him from Yui. Hayato explains that that was so that they could study properly. He says that if they are seriously dating, he has no right to stop them.

Hayato adds, "As long as it's what Yui wants, anything's fine. After all, everything that I do takes Yui's feelings into account as my utmost consideration."

Ritsu is stunned and asks Hayato why he goes to such lengths. Hayato answers that it's thanks to Yui that he is what he is today. Ritsu is bewildered and says that he doesn't get it.

Hayato responds by saying that it's fine even if he doesn't understand. Ritsu is about to ask something else, but they are next in line to order from the food truck. Hayato goes up to buy the fried chicken, effectively evading Ritsu's questioning.

A moment later, Mukai meets up with Ritsu and Hayato after they've bought the fried chicken. Hayato interacts with the other guys while Ritsu stays a little behind, watching Hayato and pondering over his words. Ritsu mutters a question: ...If Yui-chan confessed to you, would you reciprocate...?

Back At Home

Later that evening in the Yotsuya household, Hayato comes downstairs to the living room to find Yui sitting at the sofa. He calls out to her but realizes that she's dozed off. He tries to tell her to go to her room to rest, but Yui starts to fall over.

Hayato catches her in time to stop her from toppling onto the sofa. Yui remains sleeping. He realizes that Yui was working on the bracelets for the volleyball team and smiles to himself.

Hayato then puts the bracelet on the coffee table in front of them, then takes off his cardigan to cover Yui. He then sits on the sofa and rests Yui's head on his lap.

While gazing down at Yui's sleeping face, he has a gentle expression. He recalls that Ritsu had earlier said that he didn't get it.

Hayato mutters to himself, "...I don't need anyone else to understand."
