Life as a New Volleyball Club Manager

Yui is happily fitting in well as the new volleyball club manager, helping them to pick up stray balls. The members find out that she is dating Ritsu - they ask Hayato if this is really ok, and also tell Yui to report to them if Ritsu gets ahead of himself. Yui also narrates that she's found herself a good friend in Mitsuka.

One day, Mitsuka asks Yui what it feels like dating a childhood friend. Mitsuka shares that she is also childhood friends with Mano Eichi, the volleyball captain. She says that if you've known each other since childhood, it becomes difficult to view the other as someone of the opposite gender. Yui explains that in her own case, she and Ritsu were separated for 8 years, so it's somewhat different.

Yui realizes that the meaning behind Mitsuka's question is because she is interested in Mano and blurts out, "...Mitsuka, do you like Mano-senpai-", but Mitsuka manages to cover Yui's mouth in time.

Mitsuka's Feelings

Later, in the girls' changing room, Mitsuka shares that she and Mano have been staying in the same apartment complex and their families get along well with each other. Even though they are one year apart (Mano is older), they've always been together, going to the same elementary school, middle school and even high school.

Mitsuka looks a little down when she says that it feels like they could never develop any romantic sentiments towards each other. Yui says that she never imagined that someone as pretty as Mitsuka would have love problems, but Mitsuka answers that she has plenty. Even when she tried changing her hairstyles or makeup, Mano never seemed to notice. To an outsider, them being close looks enviable, but the actual situation isn't always as simple as it seems.

Yui wonders to herself what her situation would be like now if she wasn't separated from Hayato and Ritsu. She wonders if she wouldn't have developed these feelings for Hayato. However, there's nothing she can do by just simply wondering about it.

Umbrella Sharing

It's now after school and it's pouring. Yui, Mitsuka and Ritsu are in class together, and Mitsuka informs that volleyball practice is cancelled for the day.

Hayato appears at their classroom door and calls for Yui. When Yui asks him what's up, Hayato asks if she has an umbrella. He has a regular umbrella as well as a folding one, so he's asking for them to go home together. His appearance at Yui's classroom is causing a small commotion in the classroom.

Ritsu approaches them and says that he also has no umbrella. Hayato sarcastically tells him that it's a pity and that he will need to run home with his towel as cover. However, Ritsu suggests that he shares an umbrella with Yui and they can all go home together.

In the end, Hayato and Ritsu are sharing the regular umbrella together while Yui uses the folding one. Ritsu complains about the arrangement as it's not space-efficient, plus he already said that he wanted to share one with Yui. Hayato tells him to accept it or get drenched in the rain. The two boys bicker while Yui laughs watching them, thinking to herself that they have a good relationship. In her memory, the two boys were not this close when they were young.

What to do?

The trio reach the nearest shelter and see that the rain is not getting any lighter. There's even lightning and thunder. Hayato suggests going to "Kinoshita" to wait out the lightning and thunder. Ritsu readily agrees, while Yui is confused. Ritsu explains that Kinoshita is a restaurant that the parents of a middle school friend of theirs opened, which is near to where they are.

Upon arriving at Kinoshita, the owner welcomes them and instantly recognizes Hayato and Ritsu. Hayato introduces Yui to the owner, saying that Yui is his younger sister. Yui observes that Ritsu and Hayato seem on good terms with the owner and are familiar with each other, inferring that Ritsu and Hayato must have visited this place often.

While being escorted to their seats, Yui notices a wall filled with polaroid pictures. Many of the pictures are of Hayato and Ritsu in their younger days, with other friends. Hayato explains to Yui that the owner's son was also in the volleyball club during middle school. Whenever they were done with volleyball matches, they would come here to eat, and those pictures are of those times.

Yui thinks to herself that all of them look adorable in the pictures and realizes that there was a time like this that she wasn't aware of. Ritsu notices Yui looking at the pictures.

Time to Eat

Seated, they're presented with the menu. Ritsu recommends several dishes to Yui. After Yui decides on her order, she asks Hayato what he's getting and he answers that he's already ordered.

The owner soon arrives with Hayato's special order: Mapo Tofu Ramen. It is very red and looks very spicy. Hayato offers a spoonful of the ramen to Yui and asks if she wants to try it - it looks like he's about to feed her.

However, Ritsu barges in and chomps onto the spoon that Hayato is holding out. Ritsu then has to grab a glass of water to wash down the spiciness, while Hayato chides that if he wanted to try it, he should have asked.

Putting down his glass, Ritsu breathlessly denies it. He clarifies that Hayato was about to offer Yui something akin to poison. Hayato says that Ritsu is being rude, since this dish was specially created by the owner. However, Ritsu counters that anything specially catered for Hayato is automatically considered as inhuman.

Yui asks Hayato if he enjoys food that is so spicy. He explains that he started liking such flavours back when hot pepper-flavoured snacks were popular. Yui thinks to herself that she's discovered a new side of Hayato and makes a mental note to remember.

Such good relationship...!

Ritsu says that spiciness is a form of pain, so he tells Yui that since Hayato enjoys such sensations, he's certainly a masochist. Hayato counters Ritsu, saying that Ritsu is simply too weak. The two boys start to banter and Yui watches them. She blurts out that the two of them have a good relationship.

Yui elaborates that she doesn't remember them getting along this well in the past, and asks if it was because of volleyball that they got closer. Ritsu answers that volleyball was part of it, but it was mainly because of "Tsumire".

When Yui asks what Tsumire is, Ritsu whips out his phone and shows her a picture of a dog. It's a 6-year old female husky. Yui exclaims that Tsumire is adorable and asks Ritsu if he owns a dog. Ritsu confirms so, saying that they got Tsumire after Yui moved away.

Hayato says that Ritsu conveniently passed the task of giving Tsumire morning walks to him, all because Ritsu is bad at waking up in the mornings. Ritsu cheekily answers that it's because Hayato goes for morning runs anyway, and the two boys start bickering again.

Watching them, Yui thinks that she feels glad that Hayato is always gentle, kind and caring towards her. However, she also feels some envy upon seeing how Ritsu and Hayato can get along seemingly without any restraints.

New Memory

Seemingly sensing Yui's feelings, Ritsu gets up and asks the owner for the Instax. While Yui is left wondering what an Instax is, Ritsu grabs her and Hayato together and snaps a picture of all three of them together.

The photo develops quickly and Ritsu sticks it to the wall of pictures. He then smiles at Yui, going, "Look, doesn't this look great?". Yui smiles and wonders if Ritsu read her mind.

A while later, they're done eating. Ritsu and Hayato look out of the restaurant and see that the lightning and thunder have stopped. They bid goodbye to the owner and call out to Yui, who is still viewing the wall of pictures. Seeing Hayato and Ritsu in front of her, Yui thinks to herself that when she is reminded of how she is able to spend time together with them now, even the heavy rain seems endearing.

Back at Home

After saying bye to Ritsu outside their houses, Hayato and Yui enter their home. Hayato instantly puts down his bag, takes out his towel and wipes Yui's hair with it. Yui blushes and gets flustered, saying that he should wipe himself first.

However, Hayato looks into her eyes and tells her that he'll be fine, which dazzles Yui. Hayato then leaves, saying that he'll prepare the bath for her and tells her to change her clothes. Yui is left a blushing mess.

A short while later, Yui has changed out of her uniform and is sitting on her bed, wondering if her face is still flushed. She tells herself to calm down, when there's a knock on her door, startling her.

Hayato opens the door to her room (after confirming that she's done changing her clothes) and tells her that the bath is ready. They try to get the other to use the bath first, but then the lights go out.

Yui gets a call on her phone. It's their mother. Their mother says that she heard that there might be a blackout due to the rain. Yui tells her that the blackout just occurred at home. Their mother then informs that due to the rain, the train services have been disrupted, so she and their father will have to stay overnight at their workplaces.

Yui realizes that she is going to be home alone with Hayato for the night.
